Edward Hosharian, educator, composer and maestro, was a devoted and tireless advocate for the Armenian Community of Southern California and is still remembered by his friends and colleagues for his engaging wit, courageous spirit and musical virtuosity. His musical achievements are exemplified by his numerous concerts and recordings as well as compositions which include hundreds of orchestral and instrumental arrangements.
Quoting the late maestro, “We have always been interested in promoting an interest within our community of the up-and-coming young talent. I personally feel that there are many talented young performers of professional quality in our community who need the chance to be heard.”
In his memory, the Edward Hosharian Foundation was established as a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to preserve, promote and enhance Armenian classical and ethnic music by awarding scholarships to college-level music students of Armenian descent. To date, 25 scholarships have been awarded to students with majors in composition, conducting, voice, piano and other instruments.
