Meet 2020 EHF Scholarship recipient, Arin Sarkissian.
Residing in British Columbia, Canada, Toronto-born Arin Sarkissian is the Principal Flutist of the Victoria Symphony. In the summer of 2022, he made guest appearances at the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal’s La Virée Classique, after winning 1st Prize and Stingray Audience Choice at the 2020 OSM Competition. He has also performed with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, National Arts Centre Orchestra, and Vancouver Symphony.
In 2022, Arin received the Michael Measures 2nd Prize from the Canada Council for the Arts, was named a Yamaha Young Artist Performance Competition Winner, and won multiple other competitions. His festival engagements include the Music Academy of the West, National Youth Orchestra of Canada, and Carnegie Hall’s National Youth Orchestra of the United States.
Featured in CBC’s “30 hot Canadian classical musicians under 30” in 2022, Arin recently performed as a soloist with the Victoria Symphony and at the Ottawa Chamberfest. This season, he performed Carl Nielsen’s Concerto for Flute and Orchestra and Edgard Varèse’s “Density 21.5” with the Victoria Symphony. He will also perform as a soloist with the Port Townsend Symphony Orchestra and present a solo recital for the Montreal Symphony.
Arin graduated from Rice University with a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance with Distinction in Research and Creative Works, studying under Leone Buyse, and obtained a Performance Certificate from The Colburn School under Jim Walker. He performs on a Haynes Custom flute and looks forward to sharing his music with the world.
