Meet 2010 EHF Scholarship recipient, Garineh Avakian.
Originally from Los Angeles, California, Dr. Garineh Avakian holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Vocal Performance from USC Thornton School of Music, as well as Bachelor's and Master's degrees from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, with a Graduate Certificate Diploma from USC Thornton. She has minors in piano and conducting from her graduate studies.
Dr. Avakian is a tenured Associate Professor of Voice and Choral Music at Pierce College in the Los Angeles Community College District. She has taught at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy College and Conservatory for the Performing Arts in Hollywood, California, where she also served on the voice faculty and taught advanced music theory, musicianship, and piano.
A member of Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, Dr. Avakian is actively involved in the Southern California Vocal Association and the American Choral Directors Association. She has been a chorister with the Los Angeles Master Chorale since 2015 and currently serves as the Opera Voice Director at the Los Angeles County High School for the Performing Arts.
Dr. Avakian has held faculty positions at the University of Texas at El Paso and currently serves as the Director of Music at Northridge United Methodist Church, conducting the Chancel Choir. She maintains a private voice studio and performs regularly as a soloist with various organizations throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
