Meet 2023 EHF Scholarship recipient, Grigori Balasanyan.
Grigori Balasanyan, born in 2004 in Yerevan, Armenia, is an acclaimed composer whose work blends Armenian cultural heritage with contemporary styles. Composing since age 8, his projects span concert pieces, multimedia collaborations, and film scores.
One of his notable achievements is his first ballet, based on a fairy tale by former First Lady of Armenia Nouneh Sarkissian, which premiered in 2021 as the first children's ballet in Armenian music history.
Balasanyan has won multiple international and local composer competitions, such as "Rebirth" and "Vahe & Lucie 2018." His two CD albums, Melody and Alice in Wonderland, feature instrumental compositions. From 2020-2022, he wrote large ensemble pieces performed by the BHS Instrumental Music Association in Burbank, California, and collaborated on multimedia projects, including one presented at Nickelodeon studios.
Since joining the Berklee community in 2022, Balasanyan has premiered 11 concert pieces at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. His recent works include "Purgatorio" for symphonic orchestra and "Fallen" for string orchestra. He is currently working on his first flute concerto and the "Divine Comedy" suite.
Balasanyan’s first opera, Silent Tears, premiered in Boston, MA, on October 15, 2023. He recently made his Carnegie Hall debut on March 3, 2024, presenting his string quartet, duet, and solo repertoire.
